Mr. Sure Shot

by

Since the 1979-80 season (advent of the three point shot), there have been only 7 times when a guard has completed the season shooting 50% from the field, 40% from the three point line, and 90% from the free throw line (having played at least 15 games).  Four of those instances belong to Steve Nash.  He’s the only guard to do it more than once, and is now shooting for his fourth season at 50-40-90.  If he completes the season at his current shooting level, he’ll own half of the 50-40-90 seasons by a guard.  Here is the complete list of 50-40-90 guards by season.

Guess what, Spence? It's going in.

While this level of shooting expertise is impressive enough, it doesn’t quite do Nash justice.  Including this season, of all of the 50-40-90 seasons by a guard, Nash leads the way in assists per game.  The 2007-08 season has been the best of them with 11.1 assists to 3.6 turnovers.  Here is the complete list of 50-40-90 guards by assists.

One Canadian assist - coming right oop!

And as if there was need for anything else, three of Steve’s four seasons at 50-40-90 lead the way in Player Efficiency Rating.  Here is the complete list of 50-40-90 guards by PER.

I lead in PER? Time to get down.
