Chris Paul – 1 Year Celtic

Lockout’s over NBA fans (probably)! Time to obsess about free agency and trades for a couple weeks before preseason games bring us sweet release.

The first big rumor has my Boston Celtics desperate to move moody, shotless point guard Rajon Rondo with CP3 as their primary target.

Ignoring the obvious problem of convincing whoever it is that has authority to make personnel decisions in New Orleans to take a badly lopsided deal, Ainge has another serious challenge. Word is Paul has no interest in signing with Boston long term.

Assuming a deal can be made leveraging the Hornets’ fear of getting LeBronned when Paul’s contract ends next summer, I think Boston should pull the trigger. Maybe CP would be a 1 year rental, but he’s the best point guard in the league. Put him next to Allen, Pierce, and KG (and a center of some kind) and shake the dice. Paul gives you all the playmaking that Rondo does plus he can punish teams that dare him to score.

If he he doesn’t want to extend with the Celts, let him walk. Allen and KG will come off the books too, and Danny and Pierce can start from scratch again. Old becomes new.

Any worries about injuries, or their after effects? His numbers were down across the board last year. Though, hard not to consider Paul an upgrade from Rondo, despite Rajan’s own exceptional play.

Nah. His per-minute stats were still better than anybody not named LeBron, and the way he dissected the Lakers made all Celtic fans go a big rubbery one.

Yeah, his stats were not at 2008/2009 levels (some of the best PG seasons ever), but he still tore it up — and played 80 games — last year. I totally agree w/ Jason: trade Rondo for CP3, give it a last hurrah, then let KG & Allen walk & amnesty Pierce, rebuilding around Jeff Green and whoever the 2013 equivalent of a young Brian Scalabrine is.

Paul and Griffin together would be the bombdiggity, but if the Clips won’t give Gordon and a first round pick, I don’t see how New Orleans could go for it.

Yeah, if Paul and Griffin were on the same team, it would officially have to be renamed Alleyoopasaurus Dunk.
