Chris Paul Moving to LA! (We Think)

Marc Stein of and Dirk-Lover’s Anonymous reports that an agreement in principal has been reached between the New Orleans Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers. That’s of course assuming David Stern doesn’t hear about the deal and demand that the Clippers throw in Danny Manning, Ron Harper, and Mark Jackson or a super-train or a plaque engraved with jewels in his honor or whatever megalomaniac thing might strike his fancy.

The deal as reported is Chris Paul to the Clips in exchange for Eric Gordon, Chris Kaman, Al-Faruk Aminu, and the 1st round 2012 draft pick of the Minnesota Timberwolves, which is unprotected and likely to be a top 5 selection. I like this package much better than the several non-All Star veterans that Houston offered. This is a team with flexibility and hope for the future… you know if they aren’t dissolved.

We all know the upside for the Clippers: Paul/Griffin pick and roll. All day. Griffin should go back in time and spend the off-season watching Karl Malone film and practicing his 14 foot jumper. It’ll be very interesting to see what they can do here. Billups looks like the starting SG right now, which might not be too bad as long as Caron Butler can stay healthy and get up and down the floor. Billups will space the floor, and that’s what they need at the off-guard position.

Hope this goes through so we don’t have to hear about it anymore.

Also, does this trade make Chris Paul the devil? He left a small town for a big one, right? Isn’t that the new evil criteria? I may have this whole thing wrong.

Also, the fact that Paul landed in LA and the first deal was a better one, points to the fact that small market owners are pissed that big stars don’t want to play in their markets.

Sell your teams. Contract the league. But don’t mess with the integrity of the process because Dan Gilbert is a cry-baby billionaire.

We disagree on the value of the two deals. Jarrett Jack, Kevin Martin, Lamar Kardashian, Louis Sola, and Emeka Okafur with Trev Ariza off the bench is pretty good. Might contend for an 8th seed. But it will never be any better than that. All those players have peaked and none have made an All-NBA team. I think youth, picks, and financial flexibility serves them better.

Yeah, I think I am coming around to your way of thinking of this deal.

I’m not saying Stern didn’t abuse his powers in blocking what was a good deal coming from Houston and the Lakers, just that the Hornets ultimately landed a better one.
