Fast Break

by

There’s nothing quite like that feeling.  You’re exhausted to begin with.  You’ve been chasing a guy around the court for ten seconds, navigating bodies and taking bumps.  Then you see it.  A teammate deflects the ball.  He’s running down the court.  You take a deep breath and sprint hard.  And at the end of all that.  You concentrate.  Time stops.  You catch the ball.  You look at the backboard and lay the ball in soft, as your body goes flying out of bounds.  You ran back.  You’re exhausted to being with.  You’ve got to chase a guy around the court for ten seconds . . .

You gotta dog it on defense once in a while, man. Think of what Toni Kukoc would do. Smoke a cigarette. Rest on defense. Run a fastbreak exactly to the three point line and then stop. Smoke another cigarette.
